"Its not ok" Swimathon

Sat, Feb 25, 2012 - 12:00pm - 8:00pm
Come and Have a swim to help victims of child sexual abuse to stay above water

On Saturday the 25th of February a Swimathon is being held to Raise the Public Awareness of the She Rescue Home in Cambodia.

She Rescue home is a safe haven for girls who have been raped, trafficked or are at risk. The girls in the home are aged 5 to 16 - the youngest having been 4! The Cambodian Minister for Womens Affairs believes there are 'about 30,000' young children in her country who are exploited in the sex trade. Sadly, some Australian men travel to Cambodia to offend.

The time is now to say "Its not ok".

There are a number of Elite Swimmers - many who are currently on the Australian Swim team - who are helping out, with Jade Edmistone as their Swimathon Ambassador.

Emily Seebohm will swim first - with the Deputy Mayor Adrian Schrinner officially opening the event.

VIP's also include people like Brett Thurley - World water Ski Champion and Australian Hall of Fame inductee. Zach Turner - who after only 3 months in his sport of Powerlifting, broke 4 Australian & World Records. Jeremy Allen - singer and lead Guitarist from 'The Smart'; they were chosen to be Bon Jovi's support band for their Brisbane concert. Mat Von Diehm - drummer from Grand Atlantic; these guys have played South by South West festival twice (in Austin Texas) and been given rave reviews by such people as Noel Mengel from the Courier Mail; they head off to tour Europe later this year. Jimmy Holbeck - a Wallabies representative.

The event, at the Brisbane Grammar Indoor Pool facility, starts at 12pm and finishes at 7pm - the VIP relay goes from 7pm to around 8pm.

Our VIP relay at the end of the night will be a really fun time for all with the emphasis being on FUN and not the swimming!

The emphasis isn't on the swimming and we'd be happy for someone to bring an inflatable boat and row up the pool. Involvement is the key - Raising Public Awareness is the main aim.

"While there is till one child who is at risk of trafficking or enslaved in prostitution, She Rescue Homes will continue to provide a safe haven for them".
