Around 1998 4ZZZ, 4MBS, and Family Radio started broadcasting from the one installation at Mt Coot-tha. Prior to this 4MBS and Family Radio had merely leased land beside 4ZZZ but then Brisbane City Council decided that having three transmission towers and huts in the one place was an eyesore and encouraged the three radio stations to share facilities. This resulted in the three radio stations developing a company called Broadcasting Park to negotiate with the Council. This company consisted of three shares, one owned by each member station.
Internships
Music Department:
Music Department Interns receive mentoring and training from the 4ZZZ Music Department team. Music Department Interns will work with volunteers to manage music submissions, the 4ZZZ music library and the digitization project; they will also communicate with on-air announcers about new releases and submissions from local subscriber bands. Music Department Interns also have the option to develop other related projects that may benefit 4ZZZ's music collection or on-air sound. Interns should have not only a passion for music, a strong knowledge of varied music genres and be highly self-motivated.
Interns are expected to work between 10-20 hours a week during a 3-6 month internship period. Internships are offered year round through an open application process. Interns may receive academic credit if an agreement is made between the 4ZzZ Station Manager and the intern's university. All interns are subject to the applicable 4ZzZ employee guidelines and 4ZzZ Station Policy.
News Department:
Zedlines and BrisbaneLine interns receive mentoring and training from the 4ZZZ News Coordinator to source, write and produce material for 4ZzZ’s flagship news program, BrisbaneLine, and the station’s daily headline service, Zedlines. This internship provides hands-on experience in an alternative newsroom which caters to marginalized groups in south east Queensland. 4ZzZ News Department internships help students and community members cultivate skills for a job in broadcast journalism. Interns will have the opportunity to cover press conferences, write news scripts, and gather audio that will be broadcast during BrisbaneLine and Zedlines. Interns will also be involved with researching, contacting news sources, fact checking, as well as posting news content to the Web site. As part of their final project, interns will have to opportunity to produce a news feature to be broadcast on the national news program The Wire.
