After 4ZZZ was evicted from its UQ premises in 1988, staff temporarily broadcast from the Mouth Coot-tha transmission tower, using a cassette player which was set up to go straight to air.
Internships
Interns are expected to work between 10-20 hours a week during a 3-6 month internship period. Internships are offered throughout the year please find application dates below. Interns may receive academic credit if an agreement is made between the 4ZZZ Station Manager and the intern's university. All interns are subject to the applicable 4ZZZ employee guidelines and 4ZZZ Station Policy.
Process: Candidates must complete an application form and submit it with a cover letter and resume. Some internship positions require additional application items, such as a writing, audio production samples or contemporary music knowledge. All application items must be submitted as a complete package. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Zedlines and BrisbaneLine interns receive mentoring and training from the 4ZZZ News Coordinator to source, write and produce material for 4ZZZ’s flagship news program, BrisbaneLine, and the station’s daily headline service, Zedlines. This internship provides hands-on experience in an alternative newsroom which caters to marginalized groups in south east Queensland. 4ZZZ News Department internships help students and community members cultivate skills for a job in broadcast journalism. Interns will have the opportunity to cover press conferences, write news scripts, and gather audio that will be broadcast during BrisbaneLine and Zedlines. Interns will also be involved with researching, contacting news sources, fact checking, as well as posting news content to the Web site.

4ZZZ production interns receive mentoring from the production coordinator to produce client sponsorship carts in a timely manner. Production interns, will be using our pro-tools studio to produce clients spots, sub-discount outlet spots, general station spots, station ID's and show trails. You'll also be helping announcers with interviews, producing podcasts and writing scripts. Production experience is essential. 2nd and 3rd year students studying audio production or graduates are encouraged to apply.

Music Department Interns receive mentoring and training from the 4ZZZ Music Department team. Music Department Interns will work with volunteers to manage music submissions, the 4ZZZ music library and the digitization project; they will also communicate with on-air announcers about new releases and submissions from local subscriber bands. Music Department Interns also have the option to develop other related projects that may benefit 4ZZZ's music collection or on-air sound. Interns should have not only a passion for music, a strong knowledge of varied music genres and be highly self-motivated.
