"They're shining a light in places where a lot of people in authority do not want them to be looking." - Annie Game, IFEX On the 23rd of November 2009, 58 people including 32 journalists and media workers were massacred in the Philippines in the deadliest attack ever on the press. Last year the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX) launched the Day to End Impunity on the anniversary of the murders. 2012 alone has seen 54 journalists killed, 39 netizens and citizen journalists killed and 157 journalists imprisoned, according to Reports Without Borders. Amelia Paxman talked to journalist and academic Dr Kasun Ubayasiri, IFEX Executive Director Annie Game and SBS video journalist Amos Roberts about the dangers facing working journalists.
