Funding issues leave the future of Cross River Rail up in the air
In the recent budget the Federal Government offered $715 million up front to kick start Brisbane's $4.4 billion Cross River Rail project, however politics surrounding the funding have left the project's future unclear.
Queensland Transport Minister Scott Emerson has said he will not proceed with the deal at this stage because half of the federal payment would be taken out of Queensland's GST funds and is pushing for a 50-50 funding deal between the federal and state governments.
Tony Abbott and the Coalition have ruled out any federal funding for the project if elected this year.
4ZZZ reporter Natasha Dean-Jones spoke to Robert Dow, the spokesperson for public transport advocacy group Rail Back on Track, to learn more about the project, what it could achieve and how it could be funded.
