Darkness Into Light a Brisbane communities response to mental health

Content Warning: This story does contain the subject of suicide.

When the Brisbane Irish community was confronted with suicide a few members decided something had to be done. Recognising that the community all have to deal with the same issues they decided to bring a charity event popular in Ireland to Australia. A charity group called Pieta House has a strong following and support in Ireland with their charity walk Darkness Into Light. The members of the Irish community in Brisbane decided to bring the walk to the Sunshine State in 2015 and it has grown on from there with hundreds of people joining to show their support for mental health services and suicide prevention. The walk is happening this weekend on the 6th of May and 4ZZZ reporter Jack McDonnell spoke with one of the co-ordinators of the event Ronan Brady to discuss what the event is about and how people can get involved.
