Uncovering the Townsville Mutiny 75 years on

May 22nd, 1942 was the setting for one of the more remarkable incidents in Australia's war history - on that night, black American soldiers stationed in North Queensland turned their guns on their white officers in the Townsville Mutiny.

The incident was suppressed and survived only as rumour until historian Ray Holyoak uncovered the facts about it.

On the 75th anniversary of the mutiny, 4ZZZ reporter Andy Paine spoke to Ray Holyoak about the mutiny, its historical significance and the story of how he uncovered this piece of history.
