4ZZZ launched its glorious tradition of counting down listeners' 100 favourite songs on New Year's Day 1977. More than 10 years later, 2JJJ in Sydney (which employed many ex-Zed staff) began conducting its own Hot 100. Because 4ZZZ held the rights to the name Hot 100, there was a little bit of legal biffo when TripleJ became a national broadcaster, so they changed the name of their survey to the "Hottest 100".
Australian Teachers to be reviewed annually
Every Australian teacher will be reviewed annually from 2013 under a national framework set to be approved today by Federal Education Minister Peter Garrett.
Under the framework teachers would be reviewed regarding classroom performance, student results and feedback from parents and students.
Reviews will be led in schools by the principal, senior teachers and with the possibility of including outsiders.
Mr Garrett suggested the review process is a part of rewarding high-achieving teachers and implementing professional development for any underperforming teachers.
