Ebola outbreak in Uganda continues

The aid group Doctors Without Borders say the first victim of an Ebola outbreak in Uganda was a 3 month old girl and that of the 65 people who attended her funeral, 15 have later contracted the deadly disease.

In a national address earlier this week, Uganda’s President, Yoweri Musevini, urged people to avoid unnecessary contact with each other and discouraged handshakes, casual sex and do-it-yourself burials.

Health officials are hopeful there will not be a repeat of the severity of the Ebola outbreak in Uganda in 2000, when 425 people were infected. So far 232 people have come into contact with the virus and are being monitored.
