Spain up in Flames

Fires on Spain’s Canary Islands have destroyed more than 4, 000 hectares of land, endangering rare and protected plant life unique to the region.

Firefighters managed to stop the blaze, which is suspected of being intentionally lit, and a separate fire on a neighbouring island was also extinguished on Monday.

Spain has been hard hit by similar forest fires all year as the country experiences its driest winter in 70 years.
