Aamer released from English prison

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Aamer has been released from a prison in Dorset in south-west England after serving three months of a six-month prison sentence.

Aamer was jailed last year for his part in a spot-fixing scam during a December 2010 test match against England at Lord’s.

He was one of three Pakistan players jailed for putting a plan in place to deliberately bowl no-balls at certain times in the match. Then captain Salman Butt and fellow paceman Mohammed Asif were jailed for 30 and 12 months respectively.

Aamer cannot, however, return to cricket immediately as he is serving a five-year ban handed down by the sport’s governing body, the ICC.
