Defence minister rejects claims of troop withdrawal in 2013
Defence Minister Stephen Smith has refuted claims made by the US defence secretary Leon Panetta that the United States will withdraw from Afghanistan by late next year.
Mr. Smith has said that the comments bear no relationship to what has been said to him and other NATO and International Security Assistance Force colleagues in the course his meetings.
He further commented saying that it was his belief that international forces would be withdrawn from Afghanistan at the end of 2014 as part of a gradual transition strategy.
