Funeral for man who died in custody
The funeral for indigenous man Terrance Briscoe, who died in police custody, will be held today in Alice Springs.
Briscoe was taken into “protective custody” by police on January 4 after he was found drunk outside a supermarket, and died hours later at the Alice Springs Hospital after he was found unconscious in his prison cell.
Two of Briscoe’s friends have claimed they saw police beating Briscoe in the hours before he died, which has sparked an investigation by the Northern Territory Police Force.
