Attacks Continue on Shrines

Islamist rebels in Northern Mali have continued attacks on Muslim shrines.

Fighters from the Ansar Dine group have vowed to destroy all shrines in the city despite international condemnation.

During the attacks rebels took hoes and chisels to tombs of ancient Muslim saints stating they were acting in the name of God.

Mali’s Culture Minister Fadima Diallo called in the UN to help protect the city.
