God particle doubt

Scientists at Cornell University have cast doubt on the reported discovery of the god-particle at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, raising questions about whether enough data has been collected to make an accurate call.

The uncertainties are raised just a week after scientists from the world's most expensive experiment announced they may have found a "missing" particle that adds mass to matter.

The Cornell scientists suggest that holes in the data collected so far could be open to different interpretations.

This opens up the possibility of a pantheon of similar particles which could help explain other mysteries such as "dark matter" which is thought to make up more than a quarter of the universe.
