Before 4ZZ could start broadcasting in 1975, a transmitter was ordered from the U.S. But after it was lost on the dock in New York, 4ZZ's chief engineer at the time Ross Dannecker built the station's first transmitter.
Ecuador to protect Assange
The Ecuadorian government is seeking assurances from the UK government that Julian Assange will not be extradited to the US following proceedings in Sweden.
Lawyers representing Assange believe that Swedish authorities have made secret plans to extradite Assange to the US to face charges for conspiracy to commit espionage.
Assange first sought refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy on 19 June after a warrant for his arrest was released by the London Metropolitan Police Service.
