Assange confident of gaining political asylum

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is spending a third night in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, confident of gaining political asylum in the South American country.

He said the move is also about drawing attention to his extradition to Sweden, which he claims is a pretext for being moved to the United States to face charges by the government.

He says the Australian Government has not taken any steps to protect him, which he has described as an “effective declaration of abandonment”.
