150 Amazon natives occupy dam construction site

Over 150 indigenous people have occupied a hydroelectric dam construction site in the Brazilian Amazon.

Members from different Amazon tribes have occupied the Belo Monte construction site, fearing the dam will harm their way of life and destroy the local ecosystem.

The Belo Monte Dam is the third largest in the world, with work beginning a year ago, despite opposition from locals and green activists.

The Brazilian federal government plans to invest $US 1.2 Billion to assist those displaced by the construction.
