4ZZZ launched its glorious tradition of counting down listeners' 100 favourite songs on New Year's Day 1977. More than 10 years later, 2JJJ in Sydney (which employed many ex-Zed staff) began conducting its own Hot 100. Because 4ZZZ held the rights to the name Hot 100, there was a little bit of legal biffo when TripleJ became a national broadcaster, so they changed the name of their survey to the "Hottest 100".
MP trio call government to investigate drug laws
Three MPs from different sides of Parliament have called on the government to take out “politics”, in the debate about decriminalising drugs.
Liberal MP Mal Washer, Greens senator Richard Di Natale and independent Rob Oakshott have asked the Productivity Commission to investigate the current adequacy of illegal drug laws.
Washer said a focus is needed on social and health programs, rather than criminal charges on users.
Despite overseas evidence stating that liberation of drugs could decrease dangers, two-thirds of Australians oppose decriminalisation of drugs.
