Record Arctic Ice melt

Ice in the northernmost part of the globe has melted faster than ever before on record, according to the US government’s national snow and ice centre.

Satellite observations show sea ice in the Arctic was 512,000 square kilometres less than this time time in 2007 when the record low level of ice was recorded.

Scientists warned that it is early in the “melt season”, but the observations suggest Arcitc ice cover is continuing to shrink and thin.
