Queensland School teachers will go on strike
Queensland State school teachers are in favour of strike action on October 16th in protest against a new wage offer from the Newman Government.
Around 80 per cent of Queensland Teachers Union members backed a full-day stoppage and QTU president Kevin Bates has said it appeared the full day strike will likely to be in the second week back at school after the holidays.
Teachers are unhappy with the 2.7 per cent a year pay rise and changes to work conditions including less plannign time, and the removal of a maximum class size restrictions.
Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said strike action would not change anything as the matter was in the Industrial Relations Commission's hands.
Negotiations are currently underway with Industrial Relations Commission about teachers pay.
