Before 4ZZ could start broadcasting in 1975, a transmitter was ordered from the U.S. But after it was lost on the dock in New York, 4ZZ's chief engineer at the time Ross Dannecker built the station's first transmitter.
Amish convicted of hate-crimes
An Amish bishop and 15 of his followers have been convicted of hate crimes after a series of beard-cutting attacks on those they had deemed had strayed from the faith.
Federal prosecutors argued that the group, led by Samuel Mullet, waged a “campaign of terror” against religious enemies and estranged family members.
The beard is a sacred symbol of Amish devotion to God, and the vicious home invasions and animal-like shearing were designed as a humiliating act.
US Attorney Steven Dettelbach said in a statement that “our community and our nation must have zero tolerance for this type of religious intolerance."
