Asylum seekers flee detention centre

During their appearance at Cairns Magistrate Court yesterday, Magistrate Anthony Gett said any bail application was not likely to be granted as the men had been housed at a detention centre. Ian Rintoul from the Refugee Action Coalition said the men's escape may be due to a lack of immigration processing. Three other Vietnamese men, on student visas, were being held in Weipa charged with helping the men escape.
