Japanese politician apologises for wartime sex slavery

The public apology was issued after two former South Korean "comfort women", now in their eighties, declined to meet Mr Hashimoto on Friday. The women's supporters had earlier expressed concerns the pair would be "politically exploited". Up to 200,000 “comfort women” from former Japanese colonies, including Korea, were forcibly drafted into Japanese brothels during World War II.
