Statement released from aboriginal freedom summit

The communique declared the independence and sovereignty of first nations people and rejected any authority other than traditional aboriginal laws and the hereditary elders of their communities. The summit criticised the Australian government over a number of issues, including incarceration rates, stolen generations, health problems, closing of communities, mining land grabs and a lack of grassroots indigenous representation.
