4ZZZ launched its glorious tradition of counting down listeners' 100 favourite songs on New Year's Day 1977. More than 10 years later, 2JJJ in Sydney (which employed many ex-Zed staff) began conducting its own Hot 100. Because 4ZZZ held the rights to the name Hot 100, there was a little bit of legal biffo when TripleJ became a national broadcaster, so they changed the name of their survey to the "Hottest 100".
Australia Post prices rising again
Despite the online shopping boom, from the March 2 posting a prepaid 5kg parcel in Australia will cost from 30c to 55c more, return paid parcels will rise by up to 85c, and customers posting parcels in their own packaging will be charged 25c to 45c more.
Australia Post is blaming its ailing letters business as well as higher delivery and transport costs, for the rise in prices and spokeswoman Michelle Skehan says, “we know that price increases are never easy for our customers and we take the decision to implement these cost recovery measures very seriously.”
