Organisations to Declare Donations in the NSW Election

In New South Wales the electoral commission is set to take action against individuals and organisations who have failed to properly declare donations in the lead up to the state’s election.

Fourteen individuals and entities, including unions, have failed to declare their political donations before the March 9 deadline resulting in enforcement action and prosecution from the electoral commission.

Some donors have indicated a lack of knowledge of declaration deadline. However the tough stance from the electoral commission comes after the Independent Commission Against Corruption last year revealed systemic corruption and inefficiency in current regulation. New South Wales Premier Mike Baird backed the findings and changes which could see political parties prosecuted as legal entities if they are found in breach of donation law.
