African Union: "African Ebola effort downplayed in media"

The African Union has hit out against international media which downplayed local health efforts to combat the Ebola crisis.

African Union spokesperson Dr. Olawale Maiyegun has advocated that little attention has been paid to African countries providing the most frontline staff and human resources.

International media gives preference to international aid agencies, discrediting positive work achieved by African and reducing local morale Dr. Maiyegun claimed.

According to the latest figures from the World Health Organisation, 79 new confirmed cases of Ebola were reported in the March 22 week – the lowest weekly total in 2015.
