Obama to drop Cuba from US terror list

US President Barack Obama has agreed to take Cuba off a list of state sponsors of terrorism, the White House said on Tuesday, a key step toward restoring diplomatic relations.

Barack Obama said Cuba has not provided support for international terrorism in the last six months.

The move comes after the historic announcement in December that the Cold War foes will be normalising ties.

US lawmakers now have 45 days in which they can oppose the decision to remove Cuba from the blacklist.
