Qld government defers electricity price regulation for 12 months

The Queensland government yesterday announced that it would defer for 12 months the deregulation of electricity prices, to give the Queensland Productivity Commission the chance to hold a public inquiry into power prices.

Energy minister Mark Bailey says it allows the government to receive independent advice for a fairer electricity system, given steep price rises over the last three years.

Deputy opposition leader John-Paul Langbroek criticised it as bad news for competition, jobs and business.
