An annual showcase of the city’s emerging stylemakers, One Way spotlights our hottest indie bands, visual artists, designers and street marketeers amid the laneways of Surfers Paradise. This year’s One Way is built around the theme Paradiso, and will feature the addition of a runway stage to platform fashion parades from local designers. Through Appel Street and into Neal Shannon Park, One Way plays out on a concrete canvas of sights, sounds and experiences – including licensed bars and tapas-style treats – set to a vibe of unearthed and undiscovered creativity. These new old-schoolers are likely sitting on plans to rock One Way up to 11. Stonefield Four Australian sisters from country Victoria playing authentic psych-rock?! Need we say more? Sure, how about listing their supports for Kaiser Chiefs, Foo Fighters and Cold Chisel and the news that they’re topping the 2014 One Way Park Stage. Major exhibits include: Park it! This One Way standard stands up 10 street artists in front of 10 canvases and turns them loose with their weapons of choice – aerosol, chalk, ink, pencil, charcoal, you name it. Pieces take shape across the course of the festival, spellbinding crowds with a live creative spectacle. SH!FT Gallery This pop-up shopfront gallery platforms works from eight local artists around the 2014 One Way theme Paradiso. Whether you gaze through the shopwindow glass or see the works unfiltered, the SH!FT Gallery experience will delight and intrigue with lashings of the whimsical and surreal. One Way Tea Party Lewis Carroll’s non sequitur nation Wonderland comes to vivid life at One Way, with live performances throughout the day starring costumed characters from the beloved tales, including Alice herself, the Mad Hatter and the bossy-boots Red Queen. Skate Decksabition 5 One Way’s Skate Descksabition pushes into its fifth year – with more local creatives turning humble skateboards blanks into works of eye-popping art. Finalists decks are hung in One Way’s outdoor gallery, with select entries available for purchase – the perfect addition to you home, halfpipe or handrail.
