Zed started broadcasting on 8 December 1975, while Queensland was under the yoke of the Bjelke-Petersen National Party government.
The federal Labour (Whitlam) government had been sacked just days earlier, but their media policy was facilitating the birth of a whole generation of Australian public broadcasting stations.
At the time, Australia had the highest concentration of media ownership in the Western Hemisphere.
4-ZZfm became the country's first non-commercial, non-government station, delivering an independent voice to the Australian airwaves.
