Big Scary Mix Tape - Single
Independent

by Melissa Blackman

Mix Tape is the first single from Melbourne duo Big Scary - Tom Iansek (guitar/vocals/piano) and Jo Syme (drums/vocals). Their much anticipated debut album is due to be released later this year. They have a healthy collection of well received EP's under their belt and, if Mix Tape is any indication, their first LP should be awesome.

Mix Tape is modern indie love. In the chorus Iansek sings “I'm just bored, I don't know what to do with my love” - write a boppy love song is just one idea that seems to have come to mind for Big Scary.

There's a certain amount of angst in the lyrics but that is totally outweighed by the music. As the piano tinkles out a catchy verse shadowed by an increasingly epic chorus, you feel like jumping up out of your chair and bouncing around the room.

This is a real foot tapper, head nodder, shoulder shuffler of a song.

Mix Tape makes you feel like the star in a tourism ad for the city of Melbourne (you know what I mean). I love music that changes my outlook and that's what this song does. Suddenly I'm seeing the world through different eyes – Big Scary eyes.

Look out for their next Brisbane gig 27th August at The Zoo.
