Bill Wells & Aidan MoffatEverything's Getting Older
Chemikal Underground / Other Tongues

- Aidan Moffat (Arab Strap) and Scottish composer, jazzer and occasional collaborator with Scots pop-royality Bill Wells have actually been going at it for quite some time. The oldest song on here is a single from 2003. What's the fruit of 8 years like, then? Not bad actually. Moffat is as grim as ever, but he seems to be having more fun with the gallow's humour of it and morbidity as you probably worked out at the title gets a good workout here. Whether taking swipes at himself or other aging, wheezing, failing, lecherous, ugly and risible folks in sad little songs or spoken word vignettes, Moffat still seems to find a lot to smirk at; and every now and then Wells breaks out a particularly frisky rhythm whcih is Moffat's cue to unleashe an unexpectedly demonic energy, opening his smirk into a leering grin before vomiting bile all over his listeners. Check out the orgiastic Glasgow Jubilee for reference. A characteristically abrasive effort from Moffat but often as funny as hell. It turns out that a sense of humour is something you may find very useful if you consider stumbling towards senility.
