- Cedie Janson, known for his rocking in Naked Maja, blindsided everyone with a side-project of experimental sounds that also work as dance-floor friendly beats.

Music moves in cycles of innovation and colonisation. The cutting edge followed by the trailing dregs. It’s an uneven process, there’s always much more of the latter; but all it takes is the lone voice to cut through, razor-like, paring back the dead flesh, letting new blood rush in. Cedie Janson, is just such a voice, taking the history of electronica and reforging it something interesting that’s also highly danceable.

A single, Light Curve, appearing late last year. Ambient harmonies and drifting vox background a sweetly innocuous couple of seconds before the machine-gun beat just kills it. The ambient techno steeled with electro and industrial, bleeding dubby colour as the track forges a strange but excellent hybrid. The EP as a whole expands masterfully on this premise, weaving different styles together.

All of the most musically significant dance releases of the last few years have cast a steely gaze over the history of edm, absorbing the knowledge and rebuilding it into something new and exciting. Cedie Janson has imbibed those same lessons, to great effect. He is a lone voice and new blood rushing in.
