- Brisbane electronic band Clickbait are providing some real troll material with their debut self-titled EP. Spanning topics through mansplaining to Aussie bogans their dirty synth riffs and driving drums carry them through the six track EP with a not so subtle ease.

Lead single Mansplain is an anthem to exactly that – dealing with the frustration of someone mansplaining things you know all about. Starting off with a tracked drum beat and funky hi-end synth line that carries along under the powerful vocals. Explicit lyrics clash harshly with the sweet vocal timbre, creating an aural juxtaposition, adding an interesting flare to the overall product.

Maniac starts off soft before turning into a driving banger, and that softness adds an element a lot of the rest of the EP is lacking. The speeding up of the beat adds to the lyrics in a thematically neat way – bonding with lines like “it’s in the beating of my heart / It’s in the pounding of my chest” to create an overall feeling of panic.

The EP feels a bit rushed in places, a bit rough around the edges, but ultimately this just adds to the charm. The jagged finish delivers a reality check crashing into the ever-relatable content this band are adept at producing. With a bit of a polish Clickbait would really be hitting all the marks with these punchy synth tunes.

Clickbait are on to good thing, and with a bit more work they will be into something great. If it lacks the refinement of a band that have been together for years, that'll come. What they do have is the kind of heart you can't manufacture no matter how long you practice. Strong-willed and powerful, they have got their feet firmly in position and are bellowing from that heart, to all who will listen.
