John MausWe Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves
Upset The Rhythm / Inertia

- Taking the present (if waning) vogue for 80s revivalism and reverb to seemingly ironic lengths John Maus very nearly buries his 3rd album in endless layers of echo. Somehow it all still manages to work, imparting what would otherwise be pretty crystaline synth-pop and new wave with a distinctly gothic vibe. It's as if you invaded the tomb of Count Down and found them engaged in some unearthly caricature of their former, Sunday night glory. Molly Meldrum is dead, isn't he? Or does he just look that way? Strange and affecting.
