- By now Kendrick Lamar should need no introduction. The Compton-born rapper has been hailed as a visionary since dropping his album To Pimp A Butterfly in March.

Wildly vivid in its conceptualism, there are multiple voices, both literal and figurative. The album is host to an extensive list of formidable musicians such as George Clinton and Thundercat, creating a tripped out theatre of jazz, psychedelic funk and soul for Kendrick to give fresh insight into the well-worn narratives of starting at the bottom and the sad clown.

The album's power comes from the progressive blend of genres along with it's anti-gang / pro-unity themes. Above all, Kendrick displays his virtuosity in writing compellingly about his vulnerability within these scenarios, not only breaking the mould but making it relatable to those living it and those witnessing it.

To Pimp A Butterfly is an introverted yet openly freaky, compassionate rallying call, an instant classic.
