KhancobanArches Over The Sun
Departed Sounds / Other Tongues

- Khancoban's second full-length sees them put on some rockingness and pitching out their banjo, just to make sure you're convinced. That isn't to say there aren't folky and country numbers - don't worry they won't leave you fans alone in unfamiliar territory. When the rocking begins however, it is quite a different feel - so it definitely isn't post-rock - but with the throbbing, repetitive, epic thing they've got, aided by Andre Hook's laconic and chant-like approach to lyrics - it's certainly on that trajectory. Khancoban seem very much at home in all the new and different permutations of their sound, muddling about with synths and things like that. It could be just a bit too comfortable for these ears tho. Still most people aren't saddled with my rather demented tastes and will, I feel, be quite at home, nay, most probably thrilled with what Khancoban are up to here.
