Little BarrieKing Of The Waves
Bumpman / Shock

- Little Barrie at times sound (perhaps unfortunately) a little bit like a more likeable, musically focused Arctic Monkeys- sans the massive success, mixed with a little Oasis for that too cool for everything but also slightly douchey attitude - hells maybe it's just that British twang sneaking through? Either way Little Barrie are a solid group of dudes, that for whatever reason, never rocketed into the arms of the general masses, despite being able to write a song just as catchy, but far less cliched than the likes of the world-plundering Kings Of Leon or British brothers-not-in-arms, Kasabian. Oddly enough, 3rd and most recent record, King Of The Waves, arrives on our shores, some 6 months after it was originally released in Japan- who knows, maybe Little Barrie should pack their bags and leave for the sunnier pastures of the Pacific- a friendlier round 2 if you will. Interestingly, Edywn Collins of Orange Juice fame (the band, not the refreshing orange-based drink) co-produced the record with the lads themselves, and Edwyn Collins is by no means a dingus, so that's gotta mean something right? Right. As another little positive for the band, the drummer sports a wicked-ass mo' that would leave any man green with upper-lip envy. Touche Little Barrie, touche. The track I selected for your listening pleasure is called "How Come" and is a perfect little rock gem: short, sharp and easy on the ear, with an ol' "Wild West" style guitar lick that sounds like it would make John Wayne or Clint Eastwood tap their toes in restrained agreement.
