- A lot of people from other bits of the nation talking about little Scout's debut express surprise at how well put together / bound for success / sounds like money it is. Well, not I! I always thought they were going to do well. I don't necessarily mean that as a compliment: Little Scout have done indie-pop in a very middle-of-the-road way in the past, in just the sort of way that pleases lots of public - I couldn't dig it. Still, I've been interested to hear the album since the advance single with all that Jonathan Boulet and Scott Bromiley production and the epic build to its progression - it made me think Lil Scout might front with something larger. Have they? Yeah, I reckon. Without going overboard on it. There's less frenetically cute indie-pop and the gap has been filled with a willingness to experiment with sparser sounds of country and folk. It sounds good - and no doubt only more so thanks to the subtle and masterful hands of Messers Boulet and Bromiley. It's a credit to the smarts of the band that, as the stocks of indie-pop plummet like the Greek drachma, they decided to do something more varied. It also sounds mature without giving away the essential sweetness Little Scout always had. I don't think they were going out of their way just to make me feel good about this record but they've done it anyways. Thanks, Little Scout.
