- The band for whom the term shitgaze was coined is back with what amounts to their second long player. It comes to us from Fat Cat no-less who may've had cause to pause before signing the rabid invective spewing Matt Whitehurst. But Fat Cat's punt on poo-gaze has turned out to be a bit good. If you were to say that PH has cleaned up it's sound for this record it would not be meant in the same as way as with Wavves, not even in the same ballpark. Hit play and you can still brace for the forceful assault on your ears, but after a brief acclimatisation you may notice, hey, synth, melody, harmonies! Freak out, shitgaze is not quite as densely-packed and brownly noisy as it used to be. You may even find yourself experiencing some unadulterated pleasure.
