- For 6 years French electro-wizz-kidd SebastiAn has been pumping out singles, remixes, EPs and producing his little heart out, mainly for electro-powerhouse label Ed Banger and now after a hell of a wait, comes Total, his debut record of original material. Total see's SebastiAn really running with the sexy-sleak-French-house thing and he has a knack for it, think Tiga meets Justice- but a little less dumb than Justice- no offence to Justice- in fact I like Justice just fine. Coming in at 23 tracks, the album can feel slightly bogged down at times by several short interludes that are all tease & zero pay-off, but the core remains burly & rugged, strong as an ox. Seeing as Total was 6 years in the making, it's no surprise that the whole thing sounds slightly out of place in a sea of dubstep & rapey-rap, though if anything this is gotta be a positive for me- this record could have easily gotten lost amongst the residents if ambiguityville a couple of years ago. The cut I've chosen for you to listen, Motor - you can stream that little mofo below - is definitely not one of the more subtle, sexy or sleek tracks on the record, funnily enough it sounds a fair bit like a big, angry spookmobile losing it's damn mind- then imploding on itself, but gosh I don't mind it at all. Also props to SebastiAn for putting a black & white photo of himself, kissing himself on the lips as his album art- goddamn sexy, androgynous French bastards, keep up the good work.
