Born Fresh / Obese

I've always slightly had a struggle with "getting" Aussie hip-hop, it always seemed a lacklustre alternative to it's American counterpart, more brawn than brains, more boastful than meaningful, but things have been looking up recently. With the rise of and snowballing interest in groups such as the Hilltop Hoods, Bliss n Eso & The Herd, it's opened a lot of kids up to a real alternative to picking up a guitar or slapping on a bass in relieving their teenage angst, giving them a real output for those emotionally-charged, creative juices. This new era of Aussie hip-hop has given young MCs such as Illy & Solo a voice to spit heartfelt rhymes over increasingly dope beats. Tommy Illfigga has been chipping away in Brisbane's local scene for some time now, appearing on albums from local hip-hop icons, The Optimen, The Coalition Crew and seemingly-similarly-minded, young Brisbane MC, Prophet Rayza. This debut full-length, Walk A Mile is a solid-as-hell release, exhibiting Illfigga's impressive vocal delivery and ear for dense, old-school beats. Walk A Mile should stand as one of the best Aussie hip-hop records of the year.
