Wiz KhalifaRolling Papers
Atlantic / Warner

- After releasing two albums that failed to attract much attention from anyone, 23 year-old, rapper Wiz Khalifa (pronounced Car-leaf-ah) finally has broken into the hearts & minds of the people with this synth heavy, mostly marijuana-based, pop-rap album, Rolling Papers. Wiz has proved that sometimes you can just keep chipping and slugging away until someone starts to take notice, releasing a slew of mixtapes, singles and guest verses leading up to this release. Earlier in the year Wiz put out Black & Yellow, maybe the catchiest song ever written by anyone, ever- 3 million digital copies later sees Wiz sounding confident, focused and oh-so relaxed- this kid is floating on a literal cloud. Though this track, Roll Up, isn't the single-greatest-song in the world - yeah that's already been done - it takes the slick, synth-based European club beat, produced by Norwegian power-house Stargate (see S. Club 7, Rihanna & Beyonce) and melts it with Wiz's trademark chilled-out, sing-song rap and somehow it all comes out okay. Just like the wise words of Three 6 Mafia- yo gotta stay high till you die- roll up lil homes.
