Live Review
Dead Letter Circus @ The Triffid
The Triffid plays host to another big night for Brisbane music with The Dead Letter Circus coming home for their first show of 2016 and this time they have brought with them long-time pal, Clint Boge of Butterfly Effect.
Clint does a good job of getting the crowd fired up, although it has to be noted that at this stage, the audience is still sparse, with many most likely waiting for the main course. When Clint launches into some acoustic covers of his Butterfly Effect hits, the room quickly fills up for some sing–a-longs and head bopping. It’s clear that Clint still has got a lot to give as far as music is concerned, even after the demise of The Butterfly Effect, and still loves to perform.
Not much time has passed before The Dead Letter Circus takes the stage and kick off with Here We Divide. The first thing I notice is the amazing energy this band have when preforming live. I have casually listened to them over the years but this was my first time seeing them live and I really didn’t expect them to be so full of energy, bouncing all around the stage and giving it everything they had to offer.
The crowd is treated to a good mix of their back catalogue, including favourites In Plain Sight, Next In Line, and One Step. The band even breaks things up with an amazing drum solo by drummer, Luke Williams that receives an audacious reaction from the crowd.
The band takes another short break to build for the encore before returning with Tremors. They then offer up one of their oldest but most loved hits The Mile, which again showcases the energy and enthusiasm of the band and sends the crowd home very happy.
For me this was a great gig to highlight the importance and real experience of going to a live show because it reminds me that sometimes the passion, energy and enthusiasm behind a band can be missed or taken for granted when we simply listen to songs at home or on the radio. The Dead Letter Circus have had a loyal following for over a decade now and it’s not hard to see why with consistent performances like this one I got to experience tonight.
