Live Review
Two Door Cinema Club - The Tivoli, January 8th 2013.
The Tivoli was packed out for its second night in a row with an all ages show to finish off Two Door Cinema Club’s Australian Tour. Brisbane favorites The Jungle Giants and The Vaccines were the support acts.
Kicking things off were The Jungle Giants with their classic “No One Needs to Knows”. The crowd got behind the local band and sure made the most of their 30 minute set. The Jungle Giants finished their set with their recent release “She’s A Riot”. The set was definitely pleasing with bass player Andrew Dooris rocking out in his usual fashion. Yet again The Jungle Giants don’t disappoint.
Following The Jungle Giants are The Vaccines. The Vaccines had a much longer set than The Jungle Giants and they were definitely welcomed to the stage. Lead singer Justin Young comes to the stage telling the crowd how much he has loved being in Brisbane and tells the crowd to get as wild as we can get. This crowd got wild. Wasting no time The Vaccines break into their first song “No Hope”. The mosh pit get’s right into it and don’t stop for the whole hour set. The Vaccines played favourites: Wet Suit, I Always Knew, If You Wanna, Wreckin’ Bar. The all age’s crowd enjoyed The Vaccines but you got the sense they just wanted Two Door Cinema Club to just start playing.
After a rather long stage reshuffle and lighting set up the three Northern Irish lads stepped onto stage thanking the crowd for their patience. In usual Two Door Cinema Club fashion they wasted no time and opened up the set with “Sleep Alone”. The long wait for Two Door Cinema Club was all worth it when Sam Halliday the lead singer began to sing the opening lyrics. The crowd went ballistic. Continuing on with crowd favourites they immediately begin to play “Undercover Martyn”. This song was the highlight of the night with pretty much the whole crowd singing along and dancing. Throughout the set Two Door Cinema Club played 18 songs, with 10 from their first album Tourist History and 8 from their newest album Beacon. Crowd pleasers were Sun, Something Good Can Work, I Can Talk, Do You Want It All, and The World Is Watching. Two Door Cinema Club finished their set with “Eat that Up It’s Good For You” following a rather meaningful encore chant from the crowd. The boys come back on stage and proceed to wow the crowd with three more songs: Someday, Come Back Home, What You Know.
Overall this show was a hectic awesome show to be at. The crowd loved it and everyone was dancing. Really awesome how Two Door decided to put on an all ages show to give the under 18’s a chance to see how brilliant they are live. I rate this a 10/10 and can’t wait until Two Door Cinema Club are back in town.
