The Clues

The Clues, not to be confused with the American band of the same name, are an indie pop band from Brisbane, Australia. Lead singer/keyboardist Martin Somerville, also a member of the Better Mousetrap Treatment as well as a solo performer, met the rest of the band -- drummer Anthony Beveridge, bassist/backing singer Leon Van Lieshout, and guitarist Tristan Hoogland -- late in 2007 via the prosaic but effective method of an advertisement in the classified section of a local paper. With a set of bedroom-recorded demos and the help of promoter Qlive, they began gigging in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, playing piano-driven pop with a slightly dark edge, something melancholic and sad -- with the exception of a song ("Tidy It Up") about how cleaning up can make you feel happy.
