4ZZZ launched its glorious tradition of counting down listeners' 100 favourite songs on New Year's Day 1977. More than 10 years later, 2JJJ in Sydney (which employed many ex-Zed staff) began conducting its own Hot 100. Because 4ZZZ held the rights to the name Hot 100, there was a little bit of legal biffo when TripleJ became a national broadcaster, so they changed the name of their survey to the "Hottest 100".
Dark State Silence
Dark State Silence are a five piece alternative hard rock group from Brisbane & the Gold Coast, Australia. They are best described in their recent review by Pete Walsh in Rave Magazine:
"A hard rock blitzkrieg. Following in the huge footsteps of acts like The Butterfly Effect and Dead Letter Circus, local five-piece Dark State Silence are here to make an impact on the Brisbane hard rock scene. Raw, roughshod rhythms underlie thundering melodic riffs to draw together an impressively sophisticated sound from the young band, with slick lead guitar licks pulling all the sections together. They definitely nail a sweet mixture of soft and disconsolate tones, abusive double kick sections and blistering guitar solos. Like Shihad, a band whose sounds they occasionally channel, Dark State Silence have produced a stack of highly infectious tunes that are bound to translate spectacularly in the live arena."
Consisting of Jarred (vocals), Marty (guitar), Ben (drums), Drew (guitar) and Phil (bass), the band's debut EP was released in March 2012.
Dark State Silence have plans to make a big dent in the Australian music scene by giving the public good, honest and memorable hard rock.
