4ZZZ launched its glorious tradition of counting down listeners' 100 favourite songs on New Year's Day 1977. More than 10 years later, 2JJJ in Sydney (which employed many ex-Zed staff) began conducting its own Hot 100. Because 4ZZZ held the rights to the name Hot 100, there was a little bit of legal biffo when TripleJ became a national broadcaster, so they changed the name of their survey to the "Hottest 100".
Electric Zebra are a 4 piece band from the Gold Coast. The guys started playing shows and recording home demos in 2014, fresh out of high school, but didn't head into the studio until recording their 2016 release "Ambition EP".
With the help of producer Konstantin Kersting (WAAX, The Belligerents), three days at Empire Studios in Brisbane resulted in five new songs, which were then mastered by Steve Smart (DZ Deathrays, British India).
The resulting "Ambition EP" earned great reviews and consistent community radio airplay, with fans voting them into the #51 spot in 4ZZZ's Hot 100 2016. The EP lead to a headline spot on the first night of Brisbane's Valley Fiesta, in addition to a tour and extensive support slots throughout the year (Incl. Screamfeeder, Horror My Friend, Pretty City, Walken).
In November 2016, the boys dropped into the Shed Studios, Brisbane, to work with producer Bryce Moorhead (Violent Soho, Dollar Bar) on a new single. Set for a March 2017 release, Electric Zebra are worth keeping an eye on.
