Around 1998 4ZZZ, 4MBS, and Family Radio started broadcasting from the one installation at Mt Coot-tha. Prior to this 4MBS and Family Radio had merely leased land beside 4ZZZ but then Brisbane City Council decided that having three transmission towers and huts in the one place was an eyesore and encouraged the three radio stations to share facilities. This resulted in the three radio stations developing a company called Broadcasting Park to negotiate with the Council. This company consisted of three shares, one owned by each member station.
ExtraFoxx
Extrafoxx is Australian, post-modern, cheeky and addictive indie-pop! Extrafoxx is an alias for Brisbane indie mainstay Conwae Burrell. Extrafoxx's debut self-titled album features 12 well-rounded playful indie-pop tracks that jump right out of the speakers to engage you in what is sometimes a full-frontal pop assault, sometimes dreamy balladry, but always original, quirky, and compelling - a sublime patchwork of playful indie-pop-rock embracing the charm of classic song-writing, the brashness of punk and the melodic feel-good sensibility that is Extrafoxx. At the centre of Extrafoxx has always been Burrell’s songs: enchanting, playful, immediate, and contagious. They’re full of insight, honesty and humour. This new self-titled album marks an important milestone for Burrell being his first studio release and he has taken his songs from bedroom to studio with stunning results. The songs are a collage of guitar-synth pop, bluesy-rock and alt-country. As a band, Extrafoxx has been somewhat of an enigma over the years; a flux of various well-known and unknown musicians that come together and perform around the venues of Brisbane's renowned Valley scene. When Extrafoxx performs live, venues fill with indie music enthusiasts - fans and musos alike. Musos are attracted by Burrell's innate creative capacity to write captivating tunes that are as engaging as they are simple. The fans are consumed his presence; an uber-personality, both on and off the stage; a loveable bear with a witty banter and modest manner. You just can’t help but love the man, his music and his unique outlook.
